What to expect
As a collective, we work a little differently to other services.
Starting counselling can raise questions about where to start, how the process works and costs. This page explains what to expect when working with a Lilly Pilly therapist, including how we match you with the right practitioner and the funding options that may be available to you.

A GP referral is not required for private counselling. You will need one if you want to access Medicare rebates via a Mental Health care plan.
-
Our providers have established their own clinics across Sydney and so it is likely that we can find someone close to where you live or work. Most of our therapists also offer telehealth. Make sure you let us know about your preferences when you complete your referral form [Link].

Standard sessions are typically 50–60 minutes, unless otherwise agreed.
-
You may be able to use your NDIS plan if counselling or therapeutic supports are included in your plan and relate to your NDIS goals. Before you start, we will find a suitable therapist and set up a service agreement. Your first step is to complete our NDIS referral form (LINK)

This plan allows you to access Medicare rebates for up to 10 counselling sessions per calendar year. Medicare rebates rarely cover the full cost of the session, and a gap fee usually applies. Any out-of-pocket costs will be discussed before we match you to a clinician.

We have multilingual clinicians who can provide counselling in more than one language, depending on clinician availability. Where needed, we can also arrange professional interpreters to support your sessions.
